Trying to prove that his lizard like people are actually descended from a race of warm blooded bipeds from a distant sector of the galaxy, the Voth scientist Professor Gegun stumbles across the perfect piece of evidence to take back to his superiors: a human called Chakotay.

The sudden and inexplicable appearance of a bewildered alien on Voyager is matched by the equally strange disappearance of Kes. As more aliens begin to appear with ominous regularity, Voyager's crew members begin to disappear.
